Herndon, Virginia, October 5, 2006 - The Council for Opportunity in Education (COE), a leading educational advocacy organization, recently unveiled a powerful new identity developed by branding and strategic communications firm Vizuäl, Inc. Founded in 1981, COE has worked for educational change for more than 25 years, and has developed a strong reputation among other organizations and institutions in its field.
COE's management recognized that in order to position their organization for continued growth and impact, they needed assistance in refining their image — and a way to unify the look of the many pieces of communication they used to influence educators, colleges and universities, and other organizations.
COE turned to Vizuäl, Inc. to recreate their new identity and stationery package, and the Herndon-based firm responded. Jeff Lupisella, Vizuäl's founder and principal, explains, "When we began working with COE, we learned everything we could about the organization, its history, and the values it brings to the table. Then we set about simplifying and streamlining their logo and stationery to encapsulate what we had learned."
One way that Vizuäl's due diligence helped influence the final design of the logo is the graphic treatment of the letter "E." According to Mr. Lupisella, "By emphasizing the three horizontal bars in the letter, the new logo makes a subtle but recognizable reference to the TRIO programs that are fundamental to COE as an organization, and extremely vital to its stakeholders and audiences." TRIO is a series of Federal educational initiatives that work to create educational opportunities for low-income and disabled Americans.
The organization has begun using its new logo and stationery, and is already receiving strong positive feedback about the cleaner, more sophisticated look. In addition, the company has asked Vizuäl to apply the new identity to interior signage for its headquarters office. According to Susan Trebach, COE's VP of communications, "We count on Vizuäl to provide eye-catching, creative designs and superb customer service — and thanks to them, we now have a fresh, attractive logo and stationery package."
